Ajax fan and former Barca sympathiser Harry de Kok says that, thanks to Wesley, he has switched his Spanish allegiances
My favourite Spanish team used to be Barça - the arch enemies of Real Madrid. When my father and I went to see the ‘clasico’ between the two teams in 2007, which ended 3-3, I remember feeling bitterly disappointed because Barça hadn’t won!
However, ever since Wesley moved to Real Madrid, my feelings for Barça have gradually faded. In the end, I did a ‘Luis Figo’ and switched sides.
In March, Real Madrid played at home against Sevilla and I was there at the Bernabeu.
My main man was in the starting line-up. As far as I’m concerned, he was the best player on the pitch. He was at the centre of everything, involved in all of Real’s goals and a major contributor to their high-tempo game.
But then, it’s no real surprise, is it? Wesley is a top player - he’s genuinely two-footed, with great vision and power. The kid’s got it all, in fact.
Now I hear that Real have been trying to sign Cristiano Ronaldo. There’s even been a rumour that he could be swapped for Wesley.
But let’s be honest here: the Portuguese kid wouldn’t be nearly as influential as our Dutchman.
For me it’s crystal clear: Wesley is the number one.
